Faux McFox was the first puppet we created, and has become our mascot! He's a handsome fellow made from faux fur, cardboard, and rigid foam. Since his creation, steps have been made to improve our process and choose better materials.
Putting fur on a puppet (sometimes called "skinning" is a process that involves placing layers of fabric down on a foam base, and securing these via sewing and gluing.
Picking out clothes for Faux was easy. He simply looks good in everything!
Faux McFox
Faux McFox is our flagship puppet and mascot! He is a hand puppet who features arm-rods and wiggling ears.
Faux was made with a humble cardboard mouthpiece and spare scraps of foam. During our early years of production, Faux helped us learn what (not) to do when fabricating a custom, professional puppet. His "skull" was carved from some rather unforgiving and difficult to work with anti-static poly foam --Never again! Meanwhile, his ears and filler were fabricated from a sumptuous upholstery foam, which we fell in love with.
Faux's mouth is stiffer than most, thanks to his polyfoam muzzle, but he is very expressive nonetheless. His eyes are fixed in place with layers of plush polar fleece and luxurious Minky fabric. His fur has a scruffy, clumpy feel, but he remains soft to the touch. Faux's long ears are wired to an action inside his head which can be pushed and pulled by any finger not being used to work the mouthpiece. This allows the puppet's ears to move forward and backward, adding to his personality and range of emotion. His arm rods are detachable.
Faux McFox has gone through several adjustments through the years but remains one of our favorite creations!
